An AST, or Assured Shorthold Tenancy, is the most common type of tenancy agreement between landlords and tenants in the UK. It is a legally binding contract between a landlord and a tenant that outlines the terms and conditions of renting a property.

Once your offer on a rental property is accepted you will need to pay a holding deposit. Once this is received, a credit check will be run, and employment and previous landlord references requested. In some cases, recent bank statements may also be required, as well as showing your passport in person for a Right to Rent check. Once references have been approved, this is when you will sign a tenancy agreement.
